Privacy Notice
The REG-Linux Compatibility Matrix (compat.reglinux.org) collects hardware compatibility data to help users know what works on their device before flashing.
What we collect
From devices (automatic reporting)
- Hardware status — which features work (WiFi, Bluetooth, display, etc.). This is not personal data.
- Device model and OS version — e.g. "Anbernic RG35XX Plus", "REG Linux 26.03". Not personal data.
- Installation identifier — an ID (
system_uuid) unique to your REG Linux installation. It is pseudonymous: it does not name you, but it persists across reports. Its first 8 characters are shown publicly as the author of your device's results (device:xxxxxxxx). - System details — kernel version, CPU architecture, REG Linux version and a hash of your board configuration file. Not personal data.
- Truncated IP address — the last octet of your IPv4 address is zeroed (e.g. 192.168.1.x becomes 192.168.1.0). Used only for abuse prevention rate limiting. Cannot identify a specific connection.
From the web dashboard (manual submissions)
- GitHub username and avatar — provided by GitHub when you sign in via OAuth. We only request
read:userscope. We do not access your repositories, email, or any other GitHub data. Your username is shown publicly next to the results you submit.
What we don't collect
- No analytics or tracking scripts
- No cookies on devices (token stored locally only)
- No analytics or advertising cookies on this site
- No device fingerprinting
- No profiling or behavioral tracking
- No email addresses
- No game library, ROM list, or usage data
Legal basis (GDPR)
Legitimate interest — hardware compatibility tracking for an open-source operating system. The data collected is minimal, mostly non-personal, and directly serves the purpose of helping users choose compatible hardware.
For GitHub username: consent via the OAuth authorization flow.
Opt out
To disable all automatic reporting from your device, add this line to /userdata/system/system.conf:
compat.reporting=0
Both the probe and sync scripts check this flag and exit without collecting or sending any data.
Data retention
- Device tokens — automatically deleted after 1 year of inactivity.
- Test results — kept indefinitely to maintain compatibility history. Older results are superseded by newer ones in the matrix view.
- Truncated IP addresses — stored in device token records only. Deleted when the token is purged.
Your rights
You can request access to or deletion of your data through the contact details on the Legal page. Please do not post your installation identifier or other personal data in a public GitHub issue or on Discord. Provide your device's installation identifier (found in /userdata/system/.compat-report.json) and we will delete all associated tokens and test results.
Data controller
The REG Linux project (contact details on the Legal page).
Cookies and third parties
- Cookies — signing in with GitHub sets
reg_state(a short-lived anti-forgery value) andreg_auth(your session, 7 days). Nothing else is set. - Cloudflare hosts the site and the database (D1) and processes request data, including IP addresses, under its own privacy policy.
- GitHub handles sign-in, and your avatar image is loaded from GitHub.
- Google Fonts serves fonts for this site, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
